Entrance Exams

Jesuit uses the High School Placement Test (HSPT), which can only be taken once. Scores may be shared with other schools using this same exam. The entrance exam required for admission to Jesuit in 2009/2010 will be administered on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 8:00 a.m.

Prospective students should report to the Administration Building. From there students will be taken to classrooms to begin the testing process. Students will finish approximately three hours after the start of the exam. Since starting times are staggered, ending times will also vary.

Testing for Grade 9:
As part of the testing process, students will be providing a 150 to 200-word writing sample that will be used for placement into English 1. This writing sample will be graded holistically using a rubric similar to the format used in evaluating writing on the SAT.

Students may not use calculators on the HSPT; all necessary materials will be provided.

Many students feel more comfortable knowing the format of the test. Preparation guides for this test can be purchased at local bookstores. Copies of Barron’s How to Prepare for the COOP/HSPT/TACHS may be purchased from the Jesuit High School Registrar in the school’s Administration Building.

Testing for Grade 10:
There may be a limited number of openings available for transfer into Grade 10. Students will take a different standardized test geared to this age group and will also be submitting a 150 to 200-word writing sample for placement into English 2. There are no study guides available for this test, which covers verbal and mathematic thinking abilities and language, reading and mathematic skills.

Students applying for entry into Grade 10 will test separately on the same date as those applying for Grade 9, finishing at approximately 12:00 P.M. Prospective transfer students should arrive at the school’s Administration Building by 8:00 A.M., and should make sure that proctors know they are applying for Grade 10.

No calculators may be used on this test; all necessary materials will be provided.
